What do you want us to cover at the next ‘Marketing-bites’
Last year we ran the first of our Marketing-bites events: an afternoon of short presentations covering a range of marketing-related subjects.
Now we are getting ready to hold another of these in Peterborough and we are deciding which subjects to cover. Suggestions so far include:
- Marketing and the law - a review of the essential rules, codes and legislation marketers need to keep abreast of.
- Marketing and the environment - a tour of the ‘green marketing’ agenda and the practical implications.
- How can marketing truly support sales? - a look at how marketers can really help sales people achieve greater things for our organisations.
Do any of these subjects sound good to you? Are there any others you would like us to cover? Add a comment or drop us a line to let us know what you think.
I like the idea of the how does marketing support sales marketing bite…the relationship between sales/marketing is often an awkward relationship.
Obviously green issues are of interest to me!! But the conference should cover this fully….
The other things I struggle with and would like a marketing bite on include:

-How to measure marketing campaigns…
-How to embedd marketing thinking within your organisation…and how to convince others that marketing goes beyond PR and promotions!
Marketing supporting sales is an interesting subject. I agree that the two have to work together - marketing may focus activity by knowing which products have the biggest margins and how many deals each sales person has to win to hit target, but this can lead to marketing effectively supporting a sales oriented approach to market.
The majority of marketing text books suggest that a market orientated approach will create more value than a sales or technical approach.
I’m sure even the most successful sales/technical lead organisation would benefit if development were producing products that continue meet customer needs and sales actually sold what the factory could deliver and so on.
Discussing the practical steps to supporting sales but becoming market orientated would be useful.

I am also interested in the environment side of marketing as we are often now asked by customers about our environmental responsabilities. It also helps us with pre-qualification systems.
Going from Nyree’s suggestion I also think that internal marketing would be a good seminar to have with advice on ways to implement strategies to different departments within the company.
I will keep thinking and post again if I can think of anymore!
